MITCHELL RANGERS 1 def. FITZROY CITY 0

GOAL - E. FOSTER

BEST - S. BEAUMONT, P. STAGNO NAVARRA, E. FOSTER, M. CLARKE

With only 1 point seperating these two teams on the ladder, this was a must win match for the Rangers as they strive to finish in the top 3. Despite this being a Rangers home match, the venue was just around the corner from Fitzroy's home ground, giving them added confidence going into the match. The Rangers girls were still missing Vice-Captain Kath Adams and leading goalscorer Louise Buggy through long term injuries. Sweeper Louise Tinney and dynamic midfielder Kelsey Pickering were also unavailable, presenting a big challenge for the young backline against a quality opposition.

As a coach you can often tell how a match will unfold in the first few minutes, and it was obvious from the first whistle that this would be a tough, skillful and tight game. The team that dominated in the midfield would most likely create the winning goal. So, it was pleasing to see the effort and desperation that all the girls brought to the match today. It would be unfair to single any girls out, as everyone played to the limit of their ability. With Emily Foster scoring a great goal after a fantastic through ball from Kirrily Moran it was the determination of the entire team that got the result despite the best efforts of Fitzroy to equalise.

Thanks to Hannah Pannuzzo for being our mascot for the day (and Josh for bringing his vuvuzela!). A great game of football from the girls and something to build on for the rest of this season and the beginning of 2011.

Next match is Round 14 against Plenty Valley Lions away.
